technology giving birth to zollyhood

Zollywood- ZIM Movies

As Zimbabweans we are now used  to Nigerian movies well known as Nolly hood and Indian movies(Bolly hood). These have become alternatives since our entertainment industry is doomed. fortunately technology has brought forward a good package to boost the Zimbabwean entertainment industry.

Our Zim soapies have turned out to be a huge disappointment in most cases hence Zimbabweans from diaspora set to improve the entertainment industry by coming up with an idea to start a new platform which is going to put Zimbabwe on the global spotlight.

technology : an agent of expression

Technology has proven to be an agent of expression for our local artists because it is enabling artists and upcoming artists to record their content then distribute it online or send it via social networks to different media organizations in order to get recording deals.

Unlike previously where artists would first have to perform at an event or any gathering then be noticed by recording agents from there, at this day and age they can now produce and record their content then send it to different recording companies .This also helps cut traveling costs because they do not have to meet physically. It has also helped to migrate from too much paper work as deals can now be clinched even online.

As an agent of expression ,technology is enabling local artists to market themselves in various parts of the world. They do not have to book a plane ticket to go America to clinch a recording deal.Technology is also enabling artists to gain popularity through networking. When one person likes a media content they are likely to for because people have been ward it to another person at the end of the day an artists can get into fame because of networking.

Technology is acting as an agent of expression transcending barriers and frontiers which have been hindering recognition of our local artists by other people from all over the world.

online music stores

Recently a new initiative that has be brought about by technology was established.  The idea by Jive to launch an online music store has enabled an opportunity for Zimbabweans to access music from their artists online anytime anywhere. Jive Zimbabwe Managing Director Benjamin Nyandoro

We love the benefits that come with technology as they tend to make our lives easy and convenient for us . It is a well known fact that most people especially young people would rather access stuff on line than buy an actual copy.

Unlike a physical store where one would have to que for sometime in order to purchase a CD or DVD of a favorite artist one can actually purchase music content online without so much hustle. unlike a physical store where where they actually have closing hours online music stores do not have closing hours. They operate 24hrs meaning one can purchase any music content that they desire at any time of the day.

Jah PrayzahTechnomag said this initiative by Jive Zimbabwe is meant to enhance the consumption of  local music in Zimbabwe and its thrust is to promote distribution of local art programs and services. It should also be highlighted that this will necessitate  the beginning of a new era in the arts industry as artists will set high standards for themselves so that their content is marketable. All credit be given to the emergence of the new information technologies our content is going to be showcased around the world because of the internet.

the importance of technology on entertainment

Logo of the ZBC
It is indisputable for one to say the Zimbabwe entertainment is poor which is the reason most people would rather subscribe DSTV so as to experience better entertainment which is of good quality and great standards.

It is because of technological  infrastructure is doomed that we continue to view and experience poor standards of entertainment in this country. At some point our fellow comrades came up with a good initiative of ztv2 which was supposed to be an alternative form Ztv 1 which is well known for disseminating propaganda and its Zanu-PF jingles  such that some people who do not have DSTV decorders keep their television screen switched off or find othe alternatives to keep themselves entertained.

Entertainment is an essential need to all human beings. We use it have relax and forget about our stresses  but how are we expected to do that if our broadcasting provider keeps on disappointing us. The new initiative that is Ztv channel 2, at first had showers such that it was hard to view anything from it. when they tried to retify the problem the problem of volume emerged. Imagine watching something on television without volume is like reading a novel but at least a novel can appeal to all our senses in most cases. After the technical fault of volume the channel lost signal and our broadcasting service did not even apologies for this.

Our entertainment is highly poor such that one can rarely find a Zimbabwean citizen with eyes glued on the screen because they are being entertained by the Ztv except if they are watching news.

When the Minister of ICTs visited NUST in his speech he said people should adopt these new technologies but how are we supposed to do this when our country has poor infrastructure. The Minister of Information and Publicity Professor Jonathan Moyo in his visit at NUST in 2013, said they are working on the digitization of ZBC hopefully this will improve our entertainment hence a better Zimbabwe.

whatsapp as a means of distributing content

Due to our poor economic environment, most local artists now prefer to use whatsapp in order to distribute their content than using websites that are registered. Websites such as www.zimentertainment.com provide local artists with a platform whereby artists can upload their music videos which can be downloaded by members of the public.

Most Zim artists seem to be be opting for whatsapp because they believe it has a far reach than other platforms. We should appreciate the fact that most Zimbos use whatsapp up as a means of communication because it one of the cheapest means of communication and can be easily accessed by many people.

Our local artists choose to use whatsapp because they know that it can be accessed by many and the rate inwhich the content can be distributed is faster compared to other networks or websites. People can forward the content to their contacts on whatsapp and by the end of the day it would have reached many people.

tocky vibes
Local artists such as Tocky Vibes first used whatsapp to showcase their talents before breaking into the Zimbabwean music industry. They used whatsapp to show the content that they had come up with so that people could share it with others thus making it possible for him to easily gain popularity and be famous.

At the end of the day we ought to ask ourselves one main question. What are we doing as Zimbabweans to promote our own artists? I think so far we are doing nothing to promote these people but they are an asset to our entertainment industry.
